September 9 - Brockville
We left the RV Park at 9:00 and headed down the 401 with the hopes of getting past Montreal by the end of the day.  However, we didn't count on Brockville.  We just had to take a cruise.
Brockville from the water, no wonder it is called the City of Churches, 5 spires showing

This is the boat we were on

I just loved this house, its on the main drag

Brockville is known as the City of 1000 Islands aka The City of Churches.
It is a beautiful old city, very well kept.  It is on the St. Lawrence Seaway and was part of Upper Canada in 1832 although the first homes were built in 1784.
Don't think any of these were built in 1784

Can't even imagine living in this one!

Our of a Fairy Tale

Across the water is the Town of Morristown in the State of New York.  It looks like a good swimmer could swim across, I would have to float over.

There are 1864 Islands making up the 1000 Islands, (I think I mentioned before how strange they do things in the East).  St. Lawrence River Park is the smallest National Park by area but it is the oldest in Canada east of the Rockies.  The St. Lawrence River is the 4th largest river in the world by volume.  There are 7 Locks and it was officially opened as a joint venture between Canada and the US by Queen Elizabeth and Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1957.

The Town of Brockville purchased 17 of the Islands for $50.00 each.  Old Man Island belongs to the US and all the rest belong to Canada.  Some are privately owned, they even have postal delivery in the summer months.  We saw some of the owners having such a good time, they were jumping off the rocks into the water, giving us tourists a treat.
This one gets postal service

They were having too much fun!!

I wish I knew who George Bolt was other than the guy whose chef invented Thousand Island Dressing which he introduced to the Waldorf Astoria and then went international.

We had an absolutely wonderful day, we met a couple in the park from PEI and told us that we had better not miss seeing it.  We met a guy who was retired from the Navy and was now working as a First Mate on the tour boats. We also saw a Yacht that was from Australia, it was 130 feet and cost $250 Million Australian Dollars, not sure what their dollar is doing these days but should be fairly close to ours.  Quite a sight to see.  Dalton was drooling all over the place, now he wants to have a boat....some things never change.

We left Brockville and headed on Highway 2 to Cornwall where we are spending the night at Walmart.  Tomorrow we will get past Montreal with any luck at all and we will travel on 401 again.  It was so worth going on Highway 2, the scenery and the little towns along the way were really beautiful.  I guess that is as good as stopping to smell the roses.

We took so many pictures, we are putting them on a flash drive (or whatever the thing is called) so we don't lose any.  They all turned out beautifully but unfortunately I will only be putting a portion of them on. I think there are 65 in total.
This one had the most impressive stair case and the bottom part looks like sandstone.
